Glossary

CEPN

CEPN      ...   Community Education Providers' Network    ...    www.hee.nhs.uk

CEPN brings together all those involved with education and training in primary care within a specified geography to deliver and co-ordinate educational and training.

COHORT

Cohort  ...   Group of students on the LAS Paramedic Programme who are training to become Paramedics.

CQC

The independent regulator of health and adult social care in England - making sure the services provide people with safe, effective, compassionate, high-quality care, as well as encouraging care services to improve.

 

​The CQC team inspecting the LAS in 2017 included CQC Inspectors, Inspection Managers, Assistant Inspectors, a Pharmacist Inspector, Inspection Planners and a variety of specialists.  The team of specialists comprised of advanced Paramedics, Paramedics and an Ambulance Service Manager.

The CQC Inspectors for the LAS are:  Stella Franklin and Jane Brown.

 

DOLS     ...   Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards - In relation to the Mental Capacity Act (MCA) 2005, provides a legal basis and safeguards to people who lack capacity when they need to be admitted to hospital for essential care and treatment.

The Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) is an independent, UK-wide regulatory body responsible for the registration of Paramedics and 15 other health and social care professionals.  They set and maintain standards of professional training, performance and conduct of the healthcare professions that it regulates.

Healthwatch England is England's statutory champion for health and social care.  HWE works with local Healthwatch (LHW), and uses data and information from LHW to influence improvements in health and social care, through their influence with NHS England and the Care Quality Commission.

The London Ambulance Service is a National Health Service Trust that is responsible for answering and responding to urgent and emergency medical situations within London.

There is a local Healthwatch in every area of England.  They are independent organisations with statutory powers who listen to your views and share them with those with the power to transform local services for the better.  LHW has the right to access all health and social care services, for the purpose of reviewing the quality and safety of these services.
